a christmas tour diary part one
and. we're off. well, tomorrow we're off. right now i'm just packing my suitcase. except so far i've only got badges in it. still, you can never have too many badges with you when you're on tour. and i've got some thermal socks in there too because i'm watching the news and scotland looks kind of cold. i don't really know what else i need. clothes perhaps. my christmas costume arrived in the post at the weekend. although it's not much of a costume. it's just a christmassy t shirt. and i might not even wear it now. i just tried it on and it makes me look fat. and not in a jolly santa claus cuddly way.
my tour bus reading will be girls to the front: the true story of the riot grrrl revolution by sara marcus. i find non fiction easier on tour buses. i've been saving this one. tour bus dvds are a bit trickier. i have to hope that what i've got appeals to everyone and i spend the whole time worrying that no one else is enjoying it while it's on. i need to continue my christmas film theme or i won't be able to fit them all in before christmas, but i don't think santa claus the movie or love actually are going to go down that well. i think i'll just take bad santa. for tour bus listening i have the deluxe edition of is a woman by lambchop and i've just downloaded the lost cues from a charlie brown christmas. there's not exactly going to be a party atmosphere on the bus with them as the soundtrack though. luckily i have the christmas playlist that i've made to play before we come on at all the shows. i've tried not to put too much stuff on there that gets played in shopping centres at christmas. so it's got arab strap, little my, deerhoof, emmy the great, my morning jacket and the new pipettes christmas song on and lots of others on there that i've been enjoying this christmas. and it's got hard candy christmas by dolly parton on there because i love it and john prine singing i saw mommy kissing santa claus on because it's the only christmas record i know that has tap dancing on. and it's got all three songs from the new eux autres christmas single on there because they're all fantastic. oh and it's got here comes santa claus by bob dylan on. one of my favourite christmas songs ever. it makes me laugh so much. it sounds like a tony clifton christmas record. amazing.
anyway, i'd better pack some more stuff in my suitcase now or i'm just going to be wearing badges on stage.
the next time we see you it'll be from a stage.
