current listening: adam green - gemstones
so. i'm not really sure about the new adam green album. he seems to have reinvented himself as some sort of lounge lizard singer. at its best it's very scott walker, very jacques brel, but at its worst it's a bit tony clifton and eek sometimes a bit bob downe. maybe i just wasn't expecting it, that's all. i love everything else he's ever done so i'm still hopeful for this one. i keep going back to bright eyes this week though.
it's saturday again. saturday seems to be the only day i really get a chance to do a weblog. so i'll have to try and remember what i did all week. er, monday i recorded a radio session with bobby, amanda and young adam somewhere in the middle of milton keynes, behind the merlin sticker factory. which reminds me, the adam green album cover is so fantastic. all glittery and silver like one of those special stickers with the club badge on that you used to get in football sticker books. the session went well. didn't sound too bad considering half the band was missing. we recorded a jingle to the tune of God Takes Care Of The Little Things, which is kind of funny. i think it goes out at the end of february.
the rest of the week was taken up with recording and rehearsing. a little bit of practice is a good idea. and the b sides for I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star are mixed properly now. but there's only one, because we changed our minds about Cloth Ears again. it sounded too earnest. too serious. and i try not to do either of those.
but, not much else happened. maybe i'll write again on monday. i wish the truth was more exciting. x

current listening: bright eyes - i'm wide awake, it's morning.
went to Antenna at the national film theatre on thursday with nicole. got to see the new devendra banhart video, directed by Michel Gondry and lauri faggioni for the ribbon single. really nice little animation with a ribbon like a tongue running all the way through woods until it got to a house and went inside a man and made his heart sparkle. saw some other videos too, so many great little ideas. i like little ideas being stretched out. i suppose that's maybe what the album is. a forty minute collection of little ideas. so i'd like our videos to be like that too. the whole thing made me think i'd better get on with doing the video for i'm glad i hitched my apple wagon to your star. i think we might just use some footage from the rough trade instore on the nineteenth, cut together with some footage of wendover, up in the woods and the hills. i don't know, maybe we'll just go up there and see what comes out of it.
yesterday i spent the day with bobby in the studio finishing off the b sides for the next single. listened to them again this morning and i'm really pleased with the way they turned out. the second one, Cloth Ears, is only the first part of a two part song. the next part will probably go on the next single. but i had some other ideas for lyrics since then so maybe it'll end up being a three part song, with the third part on the single after that. i don't know. the first part turned out well though.
and today i've just been writing lyrics. for the next album i guess. funny, this one hasn't even come out yet and already i'm writing for the next one. but i feel like writing at the moment and so i should make the most of it i suppose. and i've been thinking about the artwork for the single. i wanted something with big ears and maybe a star, but it'll probably turn out completely different. it usually does. and i've been listening to the new bright eyes album. favourite song, First Day Of My Life. a simple sweet sentiment, "i could go anywhere with you and i'd probably be happy". i like that. i like the "probably".
i had a dream last night that i met my girlfriend at the airport and we forgot to kiss each other. so i woke up sad. i would never want to have to remember to kiss someone. x

so. i'm not really sure if this is going to work. if it does, i'll write more later. if it doesn't, it doesn't matter. x
